Releasing the Da Vinci Code

A while ago I found a copy of the Da Vinci Code that someone had "released" under the Book Crossing scheme. I finally finished reading it the other day and wondered where I'd like to release it... Somewhere apt I thought. But when we went up to Yorkshire this weekend the perfect opportunity presented itself. Sandal Castle... Ok so it's not as apt as Roslyn Chapel in Scotland... But the name is at least amusing in it's similarity to Sangreal :) hope someone finds it and enjoys it as much as I did... I wonder where it'll go? (Click here to see)

Only hope I find another Book Crossing book sometime soon... It was like finding treasure :)

Book Crossing - Da Vinci Code

I had never heard about the bookcrossing before Nomi spotted a copy of the Da Vinci Code in a doorway near to the river in Abingdon (At about 4pm), she'd heard about it but never actually found one, so I was delighted to see it was a book I'd never read, but always wanted to. So I picked it up. I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, but as soon as I've finished that this'll be next on my list.

Stardust

Me Naomi and Natalie went to see Stardust last night, I've not read the novel by Neil Gaiman, but after seeing the film adaptation I'll definitely be adding it to my Christmas list.

A typical children's fantasy story but adult enough to be suitable for most ages. Throughout the film a few characters are killed (Mostly by assassination... you'll have to watch it... i don't want to spoil it), but blood is never shown and in the one instance it's necessary it's shown as a vivid blue (Being a prince he has blue blood), which i think is a nice touch to make this more accessible to younger viewers.

The storyline is touching... at the start you dislike the lead character for his somewhat spineless groveling to his "beloved"... but by the end you love him for his character growth. It pulls at the heart strings.

That as side you have to watch it for De Niros performance... whoever cast him was a pure genius. I'm glad he accepted the role as it's a wild detraction from his usual roles.

In the trailers before the film we saw the trailer for "The Golden Compass", based on a series of novels called "His Dark Materials" by Philip Pullman. I'm planning on reading the book before i see the film (Naomi's kindly lent it to me), hopefully they'll release all 3 as separate films, as I've not seen a good trilogy since LotR.

Addictions

Now I have an addictive personality, If someone shows me something I'm interested in I end up adding it to my list of hobbies and then I'm stuck with it forever (Which ain't all bad because I think it makes me an interesting person). But as far as computer games go I'm a total addict.

Which is why although I know I'll love it I cannot play World of Warcraft, as I'd end up being sucked into it and playing it so much i end on TV as one of those people that got so addicted to MMORPG that I forgot to eat and died of malnutrition (Yes I know it'll take a long time especially for me).

Naomi's introduced me to Animal Crossing on the DS... which if anyone has ever played it they'll know it's a game that can potentially take years of game play to complete. Now like some sort of crack addict I need a fix of AC every day or I start to get twitchy, Also I've been introduced to the Harry Potter series of books (I know, I don't know how I've managed to avoid them for so long either, I've not been hiding under a rock) which means I have even less spare time as I'm reading them all in secession (Currently my friend Johns 2 year old son Morgan is beating me so I have to read faster).

Anyway must go as I need to play Animal crossing... would read Harry Potter too but I've left it at home :-( (Rocks backwards and forwards).
